WBGF Statement Regarding Recent Developments
IIn light of recent public discussion within the global backgammon community, the World Backgammon Federation (WBGF) considers it necessary to clarify the situation and reaffirm its principles.
WBGF is a democratic federation composed of 44 member nations. No significant decision, whether sporting, political, organizational, or financial, is ever taken unilaterally or without consultation with the membership through the General Assembly. Speculation suggesting otherwise is incorrect.
The International Backgammon Federation (IBF) is a recently created organization, established primarily to introduce Longgammon and organize major backgammon events worldwide. It formally invited WBGF to observe its meetings and events in Dubai. As a gesture of goodwill and in the interest of maintaining open dialogue within the global backgammon community, WBGF accepted this invitation without any conditions, commitments, or obligations.
Accordingly, the WBGF-affiliated delegation attended the Dubai events strictly in an observer capacity, fully authorized for that purpose by the Executive Board of the WBGF. Travel and accommodation costs for all invited delegates, including WBGF delegates and others, were offered on a complimentary basis solely to facilitate their ability to attend the events. Their role was limited to observation and reporting. No commitments were made and no agreements, formal or informal, were entered into on behalf of WBGF.
We thank the delegates for acting with professionalism, good faith, and diplomatic responsibility.
Any public defamation, insult, or hostile conduct directed at WBGF representatives, member federations, or players undermines this mission and violates the spirit of the game. Accordingly, breaches of the WBGF Code of Conduct, including by players, may result in disciplinary measures or sanctions, in line with WBGF statutes and procedures.
WBGF, as a non-profit organization, also reaffirms that it will not enter into any partnerships, arrangements, or sponsorships that are unlawful or inconsistent with applicable international regulations and without the approval of the General Assembly. All cooperation, present or future, remains subject to legal review and full compliance with the statutes of the WBGF.
WBGF will continue to promote dialogue, respect, and cooperation among federations, while safeguarding its integrity, governance processes, and ethical standards.
